Electrical Specialist Engineer - Power Plant / Waste to Energy Plant

About the role

VW-VES (HK) Limited, a subsidiary of Veolia Hong Kong & Macau, operates T PARK, a modern sludge treatment facility that turns waste into energy through incineration. It is looking for an Electrical Specialist Engineer in Tuen Mun to keep the power systems of the Waste to Energy plant running safely and stably with the local teams. The generator fleet consists of two GE 11kV steam turbo-generators and one 11kV emergency diesel generator.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical advice and expertise to the local teams.
• Diagnose electrical faults, carry out root cause analysis and perform repairs to restore operations quickly and safely.
• Analyse Commtrade files for fault events such as island mode, and analyse single line diagrams and electrical schematics during troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Advise management and operations teams on electrical matters.
• Liaise with vendors and operations and maintenance teams on power system maintenance planning.
• Plan and coordinate high-voltage maintenance shutdowns, including isolation planning.
• Update and prepare new maintenance procedures.

Required profile

• Electrical engineer with at least 5 years (preferably 10) of experience in power plant or waste-to-energy plants with high-voltage power generation.
• Completed a relevant apprenticeship and an electrical engineering degree.
• Hands-on experience with power system fault support, high-voltage maintenance, equipment operation and writing switching programs for high-voltage operators.
• Experience performing high-voltage switching, including isolation, permit issuance and re-energisation, wearing an arc-flash suit.
• Fluent English to read design documentation; strong communication, safety focus and leadership skills, including coaching a team of technicians and engineers.
• After-hours technical support for fault investigation and restoration.

Required skills

• High-voltage switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, relays and station battery chargers.
• Protection relays (Schneider P132, P143) is a plus.
