Head of Internal Audit

About the role

The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI) is seeking a senior professional to lead its Internal Audit function. Reporting to the Audit Committee, the Head of Internal Audit will ensure robust governance, risk management and compliance across the institute’s research and development activities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a risk‑based rolling three‑year internal audit plan for Audit Committee approval and oversee its implementation.
• Conduct individual internal audit reviews, provide assurance on internal controls and governance processes, and recommend improvements.
• Follow up on audit recommendations and monitor implementation status.
• Facilitate the risk‑management process and deliver quarterly risk updates to the Audit Committee.
• Act as Compliance Officer, reporting significant compliance matters and handling whistle‑blowing reports.

Required profile

• Proven experience in internal audit, risk management or compliance, preferably within a research or technology‑focused organization.
• Strong understanding of internal control frameworks and governance best practices.
• Ability to communicate audit findings and recommendations clearly to senior management and board members.
• Professional integrity and a proactive approach to identifying operational issues.
