Mechanical Engineering Manager – Consumer Electronics

About the role

This position leads the mechanical engineering function for consumer electronic products, overseeing architecture, structural design, and manufacturing from concept through mass production. The manager balances deep technical expertise with strong people leadership to meet quality, cost, and schedule objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Build, mentor and lead a high‑performing mechanical engineering team.
• Allocate engineering resources across multiple new product development projects aligned with product roadmaps.
• Act as the technical authority for mechanical designs, material selections and tooling specifications.
• Use advanced 3D CAD and FEA (stress, thermal, structural) to validate designs before prototyping.
• Enforce quality standards to maximise yield, reliability and product performance.
• Collaborate with Industrial Design, Electronics Engineering, Manufacturing and QA to align cost, aesthetics and functionality.
• Oversee tooling design, plastic injection molding, precision metal fabrication, packaging and DFM.
• Resolve complex mechanical and tooling issues during prototype and production phases.
• Track development schedules, budgets and unit costs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• At least 10 years of progressive mechanical design experience, including 3‑5 years in a management or team‑lead role.
• Proven track record in consumer electronics or high‑precision mechanical devices.
• Strong cross‑functional collaboration skills and ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
