Head of Data – Global Financial Institution – Hong Kong

About the role

We are seeking a Head of Data to lead the design, build, and operation of data platforms that support trading, risk, and research activities. You will manage a small data team and work closely with stakeholders across Trading, Quant, Risk, and Technology.

Key responsibilities

• Lead end‑to‑end development of batch and streaming data pipelines for market, reference, and trade data.
• Design and maintain scalable lakehouse/warehouse architectures that are accessible, governed, and performant.
• Own data ingestion from APIs, files, message buses, and vendor feeds, ensuring reliability.
• Implement data quality checks, reconciliation, and monitoring for completeness, accuracy, latency, and schema validation.
• Build data products such as dashboards, research environments, and risk analytics for downstream consumption.
• Ensure production readiness with operational monitoring, incident response, runbooks, SLA/SLO alignment, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Drive engineering best practices including code reviews, reusable components, documentation, and mentoring.
• Translate business requirements into technical roadmaps in collaboration with stakeholders.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering or data platform engineering.
• Strong hands‑on experience with Python and SQL.
• Proven experience designing and operating production data pipelines.
• Deep knowledge of modern data tooling, data modeling, and governance concepts.
• Experience with monitoring and operational practices for data workloads.
• Background in trading environments (market data, order/trade lifecycle, P&L, risk, reference data).
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform).
• Demonstrated experience leading teams or mentoring engineers.
