Head of HNW Underwriting, Wealth

About the role

Prudential is seeking an experienced Head of High-Net-Worth Underwriting (HNWU) to lead the underwriting strategy, governance and technical capabilities of its Wealth platform. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, Group Wealth, the role establishes a globally consistent HNW underwriting framework across Bermuda and future Wealth Hubs, delivering market-leading underwriting outcomes, service standards and customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Own the Wealth underwriting strategy, philosophy and governance framework, and set global underwriting standards, guidelines and authority limits
• Define the long-term underwriting operating model and keep practices aligned with risk appetite and regulatory expectations
• Provide technical leadership for complex HNW cases such as jumbo cases, trusts, premium financing and offshore structures, and act as final technical referral point for exceptional cases
• Drive consistency of underwriting decisions across Bermuda, PACS and PHKL, and guide complex claims adjudication
• Maintain the underwriting risk framework, quality assurance, referral governance and claims adjudication principles
• Work with Operations to define service levels and turnaround times, and lead automation and digital enablement in underwriting workflows
• Partner with Distribution, Case Management, Policy Admin, Product, Pricing, Legal, Risk and Compliance, and build relationships with brokers and private banks
• Lead the Wealth specialist HNW underwriting function, coach underwriting leaders and foster collaboration across jurisdictions

Required profile

• University degree in Business, Insurance, Risk Management or a related discipline
• Professional Life Insurance qualification (e.g. FLMI, ACS or equivalent) preferred
• 18+ years of life insurance underwriting experience, with at least 10 years in HNW or complex life insurance underwriting
• Demonstrated leadership of specialist underwriting teams across multiple jurisdictions
• Proven track record of underwriting transformation, governance and process improvement

Required skills

• Strong technical expertise in HNW underwriting, complex claims adjudication, wealth accumulation and offshore insurance
• Extensive experience with reinsurers on facultative underwriting, philosophy and product development
• Knowledge of trusts, premium financing, offshore ownership structures and complex financial underwriting
• Excellent stakeholder management and written and verbal English communication
