Legal Counsel – Derivatives & Trading Agreements

About the role

Jump Trading Group is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join its global legal team in Hong Kong. The role focuses on derivatives and trading agreements, providing legal advice and negotiating a wide range of transaction documents.

Key responsibilities

• Work with business development, trading, treasury, risk and clearing teams to assess needs, advise internal stakeholders and lead negotiations with derivatives and financing counterparties across all asset classes.
• Counsel business units on contract strategy, explain contractual risks and obligations, suggest alternatives and negotiate agreements.
• Identify potential regulatory issues relating to derivatives trading and collaborate with compliance, internal stakeholders and external counsel to mitigate risks.
• Collaborate closely with global legal team members to support business initiatives across time zones.
• Assist on internal legal department projects and initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong or a comparable jurisdiction.
• At least 5 years of post‑qualification experience.
• Full professional proficiency in Mandarin.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to learn new business areas quickly.
• Prior in‑house experience, preferably at a financial services firm, is a plus.

Required skills

• Extensive experience negotiating ISDA documentation and other trading‑related agreements.
• Knowledge of prime brokerage agreements, futures and OTC clearing agreements, repurchase agreements and electronic trading agreements.
• Working knowledge of derivatives regulations and trading‑related regulatory frameworks, especially in the Asia‑Pacific region.
