Assistant Manager, Buildings and Systems Engineering

About the role

The Project Engineering Supervisor is a member of the UPS Building and Systems Engineering (BaSE) department. The position directly manages construction projects of low to moderate complexity and risk, such as conveyor installations and facility modifications, or assists the Project Engineering Manager on highly complex projects. Projects may involve building construction, package sortation equipment or both. The supervisor works at the project site.

Key responsibilities

• Complete the bid package process (bid creation, evaluation, background check, award) to select the most competitive bid and competent vendor for contracts such as soils, survey and conveyor electrical.
• Evaluate bids and proposals and recommend contract awards based on competitiveness, background checks and vendor competence.
• Develop project schedules to meet deadlines.
• Investigate mechanical breakdowns (conveyor failures, operator errors, design flaws) to protect productivity and efficiency.
• Identify construction process improvements and design solutions for optimal package flow efficiency.
• Evaluate budget performance, analyze surplus sources and negotiate with vendors to avoid scope changes.
• Maintain the cost log and project management checklist, process invoices and release funds to contractors.
• Inspect materials and installations against UPS standards and ensure repairs are completed on schedule.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or international equivalent in engineering or a related field, with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience evaluating bid proposals and assisting in managing building construction or large industrial installations.
• Experience designing solutions for process improvement.
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English and the project site's native language.
• Flexibility to work weekends and ability to travel.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD.
• Project scheduling and cost control.
