Data Backend Engineer (Software Engineer II)

About the role

Wati is seeking a Data Backend Engineer to join its China team. You will help strengthen the company’s data infrastructure, enabling insights, analytics, and intelligent decision‑making across the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and backend services.
• Design and optimise storage solutions for both structured and unstructured data.
• Collaborate with product and analytics teams to deliver data‑driven features.
• Ensure data quality, availability and performance at scale.
• Integrate third‑party APIs and tools for reporting and analytics.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering or a related field.
• 2‑4 years of experience in backend or data engineering.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java or Go.
• Hands‑on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL and BigQuery.
• Familiarity with ETL pipelines, data warehousing and streaming frameworks (Kafka, Spark, Flink).
• Understanding of cloud‑based data infrastructure (GCP, AWS or Azure).
