Director of Business Development – Institutional Markets

About the role

The Director of Business Development will shape and execute the growth strategy for the Chinese institutional market. Reporting to senior leadership, you will identify high‑potential clients such as banks, asset managers, sovereign wealth funds and large state‑owned enterprises, and drive end‑to‑end deal cycles.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement market strategies to capture opportunities within the Chinese institutional sector.
• Identify and engage high‑potential institutional clients, conducting market research on trends, competition and regulatory changes.
• Build and maintain relationships with C‑level executives and key decision‑makers, representing the company at conferences and networking events.
• Lead full sales cycles—from outreach and needs analysis to proposal, negotiation and contract closure—customising solutions for each client.
• Collaborate with product, legal and compliance teams to structure commercially viable deals that meet regulatory requirements.
• Stay current on Chinese regulations and ensure all activities comply with internal policies and legal standards.

Required profile

• University degree in Finance, Economics, Business or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of business development, institutional sales or account management experience, preferably in financial market infrastructure.
• Proven track record of engaging Chinese institutional clients and deep understanding of Chinese business culture.
• Experience working in multinational corporations or cross‑cultural teams.
• Excellent written and spoken English and advanced proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
• Ability to develop and execute long‑term growth strategies.
