Lead Engineer, Risk Technology

About the role

As the Lead Engineer for Risk Technology at Bullish, you will own the design and delivery of high‑performance risk systems that protect our digital‑asset exchange. You will work at the intersection of quantitative finance and low‑latency engineering, turning complex risk models into reliable, real‑time services.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain low‑/zero‑GC JVM services and APIs that process margin, stress‑scenario and exposure calculations in real time.
• Translate quantitative risk models into clean, maintainable Java code while ensuring sub‑millisecond latency.
• Lead technical best‑practice adoption across the Risk Engineering team, including code quality, testing, and performance profiling.
• Collaborate closely with quantitative analysts, product managers and other engineering squads to align system design with business requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement of the team’s development processes.

Required profile

• Extensive experience building high‑throughput, low‑latency backend services in Java.
• Strong understanding of JVM internals, garbage‑collection tuning, and zero‑allocation programming techniques.
• Proven ability to work with complex financial or risk models and convert them into production‑grade software.
• Track record of leading technical initiatives and delivering mission‑critical systems.
