Senior Group Manager, Investment Risk

About the role

This role sits within Financial and Sustainability Risk and supports the Group's oversight of investment risks across public market and alternative assets, with a primary focus on alternatives such as private equity, private credit, infrastructure, real estate and other illiquid strategies. It provides independent second-line risk oversight and works closely with first-line investment teams and local business unit second-line teams to ensure robust risk identification, monitoring, review, governance and escalation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent second-line oversight of alternative investments (private equity, private credit, real estate, infrastructure) covering concentration, liquidity, credit/default, valuation, leverage and exit risks.
• Conduct independent risk reviews and challenge investment mandates, manager/fund due diligence, new asset classes and material portfolio actions.
• Monitor the alternatives portfolio and escalate performance drivers and emerging risks, and help build and harmonise risk management frameworks for alternative assets.
• Support risk mitigation strategies so investments comply with internal policies, standards and regulatory expectations.
• Review and challenge first-line valuation and credit assessments, including methodologies, assumptions and judgments.
• Develop and apply stress tests and scenarios, turning results into actionable outputs.
• Support risk reporting to senior management and regulators, and represent Group Risk in engagements with investment and risk teams.
• Champion a risk-aware culture for alternatives and keep practices aligned with industry standards.
