Software Engineer (Java) – Investment Bank

About the role

Our client, a tier‑1 leading investment bank, is seeking a talented Software Engineer (Java) to join its high‑performing Technology division in Hong Kong. You will play a key part in a multi‑year engineering modernization programme, transforming enterprise‑critical portfolio accounting systems into resilient, cloud‑ready microservices that power real‑time valuations, transaction processing, analytics and automated reporting across global markets.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy mission‑critical backend accounting services using Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs.
• Construct reusable components, highly structured data models, and event‑driven workflows handling low‑latency, high‑volume financial data streams.
• Partner closely with architecture, product management, and QA teams across international engineering hubs (Hong Kong and India).
• Diagnose bottlenecks, optimise queries (DB2/SQL), and elevate system performance across large‑scale distributed databases and data streams.
• Drive design discussions, conduct rigorous peer code reviews, and champion engineering best practices throughout the software development lifecycle.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of software engineering or development experience.
• Strong communication skills with an appetite for tackling ambiguity and solving end‑to‑end technical challenges.
• Experience with financial systems such as portfolio valuation, general ledger, or performance attribution is a plus.

Required skills

• Core Java (multithreading, concurrency, memory management, OOP design patterns).
• Spring Boot and RESTful services.
• Relational databases (SQL, DB2) and complex query optimisation.
• NoSQL databases (MongoDB) and distributed message brokers (Kafka).
• Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud‑native tooling.
