Deputy Project Manager - Landfill Operations

About the role

Veolia Hong Kong Holding Limited, part of the Veolia Group, is looking for a Deputy Project Manager to oversee the North East New Territories Landfill and its extension. The role covers project activities, financial planning and team leadership, acting as deputy to the Project Manager during their absence.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of operating plans and ensure site activities comply with local laws, company codes and contractual obligations.
• Manage budgets, including forecasting capital (capex) and operating (opex) expenditures, and oversee asset replacement.
• Direct recruitment, training, performance and discipline of staff.
• Act as primary liaison for landfill users, local residents, the EPD and independent consultants.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering (or a related science).
• 8-10 years in municipal waste landfill operations, with at least 5 years in a managerial position or equivalent project management role.
• Good command of written and spoken English; Cantonese is an advantage.
• Preference for Chartered membership in an environmental or engineering institution and experience with government projects or multinational companies.

Required skills

• Project finance and cash flow management.
• Implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) plans and procedures.
• Strong communication, coaching and negotiation skills, able to work independently under pressure.
