Python Developer – High‑Performance Backend (Relocate to Sydney)

About the role

We are looking for a Python Developer to join a global trading firm’s Sydney office. You will build high‑performance backend platforms that support research, trading and core business operations, working alongside top‑class engineers, quantitative researchers and traders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and distributed systems using Python.
• Build robust APIs, data‑processing pipelines and automation tools for trading and research platforms.
• Optimise system performance, reliability and latency in production environments.
• Develop software for Linux‑based infrastructure and improve operational tooling.
• Collaborate closely with traders, researchers and infrastructure teams to deliver high‑quality solutions.
• Troubleshoot production issues and drive continuous improvements to system stability.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building backend applications.
• Excellent Linux systems knowledge, including debugging, performance tuning and shell scripting.
• Experience with production‑grade distributed systems or high‑performance backend services.
• Solid understanding of networking, concurrency and system design principles.
• Proficiency with SQL and handling large data sets.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced engineering environment.
