Deputy Executive Manager – International Sale

About the role

The Hong Kong Jockey Club is seeking a strategic leader to head the Hong Kong International Sale (HKIS), its flagship annual horse auction. The Deputy Executive Manager, International Sale will shape the end‑to‑end sourcing, preparation and delivery of elite racehorses for owners in Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the HKIS purchasing strategy, defining target markets, horse profiles, price points and volumes.
• Lead external experts in pedigree analysis, conformation assessment and suitability evaluation.
• Collaborate with veterinary teams to secure low‑risk, high‑performance acquisitions.
• Oversee overseas pre‑training programmes and on‑site preparation at Conghua Racecourse, monitoring horse development and making selection decisions.
• Plan and execute the annual HKIS event, including catalogue creation, marketing, breezups, inspections and auction operations.
• Manage post‑sale owner engagement, addressing concerns and ensuring long‑term satisfaction.
• Provide strategic advisory services to owners in Hong Kong and Mainland China on horse acquisition and management.

Required profile

• Proven experience in international horse sales, auctions or equine asset management.
• Strong commercial acumen with a track record of developing and executing sales strategies.
• Excellent stakeholder management and advisory skills, able to work with owners, veterinarians and internal teams.
• Leadership capability to manage cross‑functional teams and external consultants.
• Deep understanding of the equine industry, including pedigree evaluation and performance potential.
